DR. JIBRIL OMUYA ABDULMALIK

Dr Jibril Omuya Abdulmalik, lectures with the Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan; and is Honorary Consultant to the University College Hospital, Ibadan.He is also the Founder/CEO of the Asido Foundation – a Not-for-Profit Mental Health Advocacy Organization that is committed to promoting better understanding around mental health issues in Nigeria.His driving passion is to contribute towards the improvement around mental health issues across the lifespan – in terms of public engagement, service user empowerment, improved and more accessible services, as well as mental health reforms.He started writing a weekly column for the Nigerian Tribune in August 2016, and these articles have been compiled and published as a book titled “Optimal Mental Health: An Everyday Guide”. He has contributed several book chapters; and has published over 70 journal articles in the field of mental health.

Dr Abdulmalik has completed 3 Masters in the areas of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (Ibadan, Nigeria); International Mental Health Policy and Services (Lisbon, Portugal); as well as in Health Management and Planning (Maiduguri, Nigeria). He is currently rounding up his PhD studies with the University of Cape Town (Public Mental Health) – with a focus on the economic consequences of mental illness for families and nations. He is an alumnus of the Lagos Business School (LBS), University of Ibadan JCI, and the recipient of several International Fellowships and Awards. He is happily married with children
